FGGC Benin Teacher Redeployed Over Alleged Molestation Case
By Osehobo Ofure, Benin City
The teacher at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Benin City, Edo State, who was allegedly accused of molesting a student has been redeployed from the school.
The principal of the college, Mrs. Tolu Comfort, disclosed this during a thank-you visit to the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, in his office.
She then commended the Commissioner’s swift response when the incident regarding the alleged molestation case involving the teacher, Mr. Jatto Agholor George, and the 11-year-old student occurred.
The Commissioner had set up a committee to investigate the accusations and proceeded with necessary actions based on what he described as the government’s zero tolerance for molestation and abuse.
He assured the people of Edo State that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration remains committed to ensuring that schools are safe for all students.
However, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), Abuja, later clarified the nature of the allegations against Mr. Jatto Agholor George, in a statement by its Director of Press and Publicity, Folasade Boriowo.
It states that following a thorough review, the case was determined to be one of high-handedness in classroom management rather than sexual harassment.
The statement further explained that an investigative panel set up by the school found that Mr. Jatto was on prep supervision duty at the time of the incident and was responding to a rowdy classroom situation.
