The Edo State Ombudsman, Mr Augustine Aigbavboa, has called for a stronger legislative framework to enhance public interest bills in the state.
He made the call during a high-level meeting with the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, in Benin City.
Emphasising the need for greater collaboration between the Public Complaints Commission and the state legislature, Aigbavboa who heads the Public Complaints Commission in the state also commended the Assembly for its commitment to people-oriented legislation.
Mr Aigbavboa highlighted the importance of ensuring that public concerns are adequately addressed in the lawmaking process as he proposed a framework designed to increase public participation, improve transparency, and enhance accountability in governance.
“The voices of Edo people must be heard, and their concerns addressed through effective legislative actions,” Aigbavboa stated, stressing the need for a structured partnership between the Commission, the Assembly, and other stakeholders.
According to him, the proposed framework will empower the Public Complaints Commission to monitor governance more effectively and ensure that public grievances receive appropriate legislative attention.
Speaker Agbebaku, in response, acknowledged the Commission’s role in promoting good governance and assured Aigbavboa of the Assembly’s willingness to consider initiatives that strengthen public trust in government institutions.
