Wife of the Bauchi state governor Hajiya Mariam Bala Mohammed has offset the medical bills of a 40-year-old woman whose arms and legs were amputated.
Mariam said her decision to offset the medical fee followed a video of the woman, name withheld, that went viral showing the horrific condition of the woman in bed at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
She said that as human being, she shares in the pains and agonies of fellow human beings particularly women, hence her resolve to wave in so as to save the woman.
The governor’s wife explained that though the patient is not an indigene of Bauchi state, it is good to help neighbours.
“This is why we are here. We are here to save and protect the interest of the common persons in our society who entrusted us with their mandate.
“I can’t sit comfortably to see our women wailing in pains and sorrow when I have the means to help change the situation,” she said.
She urged patients suffering from diabetes to adhere to doctors’ instructions and specifications to live a healthy live and avoid having their limbs amputated.
