A 23-year-old barber, Olawande Akinde, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for alleged stealing of property to the tune of N69,500.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 15, 2022, at 2.00 p.m., at No. 22, Temidayo Street in Okitipupa.

Orogbemi alleged that the defendant burgled the house of one Feyisara Odole and stole one three-kilogramme gas cylinder worth N10,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also stole a six-kilogramme gas cylinder worth N20,000 and a Tecno phone worth N9,500.

“The defendant also stole N30,000 cash, property of  Odole,” he said.

According the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 411, 412 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Ojuola said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to Ondo State Government.

He adjourned the case until March 14 for further hearing.
