The increment in the monthly allowances from initial N5, 000 to N20,000 will take effect from August 1, 2025.

Governor Umo Eno, while approving the 300 percent increase in the monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during a meeting with the team State Delivery Advisors in Uyo said, he was moved by the prevailing socio – economic conditions facing the population.

He said, “the increment is to support the federal government’s N77,000 monthly allowance in helping corps members meet their basic needs.”

“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them”.

Governor Eno, had also approved the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai local government area as part of the on – going efforts to improve the welfare of corps members serving in Akwa Ibom State.

He explained that, the scheme which was established since 1973, was a brainchild of the former Military Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon to foster social, ethno – religious and political integration for greater unity, peace and oneness of Nigeria.

Governor Eno stated, “It was created to foster national integration, unity, and development by deploying young graduates to states outside their region of origin for community service, education, and nation-building efforts” noting that, “Akwa Ibom State has remained one of the most welcoming and safest destinations for NYSC members, with corps members actively contributing to it’s development in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, and rura development etc”.

An NYSC official, who spoke glowingly on the attitude of the Governor on grounds of anonymity described the cherry news as one borne out of compassionate heart.

He said, Governor Umo Eno is a leader, who moves with the time, understanding the yearnings and aspirations of his subjects adding that, “with the latest gesture, the governor has continued to demonstrate a leadership style anchored on compassion, inclusiveness, and strategic support for the next generation”.
