Three persons have been confirmed dead while 22 houses were burnt by unknown gunmen that attacked two villages in Billiri local government area of Gombe State in the early hours of Thursday.
Gombe State commissioner of internal security Adamu Kubto Dishi disclosed this while addressing journalists at the government house, Gombe on Friday.
He said, the gunmen shot dead the two people in Pobawure village and another person in Amtawalam villages and set houses ablaze.
Dishi said, he received at about 2:00am on Thursday that the gunmen have stormed the villages and he immediately instructed security men to rush to the scenes to repel the attacks.
He said, “If not of the quick response by the security men, the magnitude of the attack would be too much. The security agents had succeeded in repelling them. The gunmen had fled and investigation is currently going on”.
The commissioner added that the matter was discussed at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on Friday and Governor Inuwa Yahaya approved and ordered the distribution of relief materials to the victims.
He added that, the state government delegation led by the governor had visited the local government Friday morning to commiserate with them.
The relief materials which consists of foods and non consumables were later distributed to the victims.
