Four Businessmen were on Friday arraigned in a Wuse Zone Six Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly producing fake home fragrances for sale.
The accused persons are Uchenna Keneth, Eze Chidozie, Chizoba Umeodimma, and Okoroagu Ifeanyi, all residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
They were charged by the police on a six- count charge bordering on alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, wrongful gain, wrongful loss, dishonesty and counterfeit production.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP. Peter Ejike, told the court that a written petition was received at the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos, through the complainant, Stova Industries LTD. on May 18.
Ejike alleged that the four defendants criminally conspired and wrongfully did a bulk production of fake Suns Air freshener fragrance.
He told the court that the defendants made the production with intent of distributing and selling the products in the market to make wrongful gain thereby causing loss to Stova Industries LTD.
The counsel alleged that the accused, who were arrested by the police admitted to the crime, adding that during police investigation, all products seized and tested were discovered to be fake.
Ejike said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 312, 13, 14, 16 and 17 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Aminu Eri, however, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N2 million each and two reasonable sureties each.
Eri, ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction, reliable with a means of livelihood and identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 22 for hearing.
