Gombe Government Moves To Fix Damaged Infrastructure After Floods

The Gombe State Government has taken swift steps to restore damaged infrastructure and improve public safety after heavy rainfall and erosion caused serious damage across Gombe metropolis and nearby communities.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, directed relevant ministries and agencies to carry out immediate assessments of all affected areas and provide quick recommendations for government action.
Acting on the Governor’s order, the Commissioner of Works and Transport, through the Permanent Secretary, Danladi Adamu, led a team to inspect nine affected sites, including Orji Quarters, Shehu Abubakar District, Pantami, Jekadafari, Madaki, Kundulum, and Tumfure.
Speaking during the visit, Adamu explained that the Governor’s instruction was clear to assess and respond without delay.
“We have inspected about nine sites and carried out on the spot evaluations. Recommendations will be made, with priority on areas needing urgent repairs, while long term solutions will also be provided,” he said.
He assured residents that the government would continue working to protect public convenience and critical infrastructure, while also urging communities to support these efforts by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse and building on waterways.
Representatives of Triacta Nigeria Ltd, led by Engineer Imran Khan, noted the challenges caused by blocked water channels and increased building developments. He promised collaboration with agencies like GOSUPDA to reestablish water channels and put in place effective erosion control measures.
Some residents, including Mr. Sam Uso of Orji Quarters, whose home was affected by a collapsed bridge, praised the government for responding quickly to their plight.
Officials stated that while some sites would be given immediate attention, others would be included in the state’s ongoing major erosion control projects.
Since coming into office, Governor Yahaya’s administration has consistently implemented standard road and erosion control projects, such as the 21 km FCE(T) Unguwa Uku Gully Erosion Project and the ongoing multi billion naira mega gully erosion project stretching from Abdullahi Ganduje Road to Doma, covering over 18 kilometers.
