FUTD Appoints Umar Faruk Bayu As Substantive Registrar, Others Take Key Positions

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), has appointed Malam Umar Faruk Bayu as the substantive Registrar of the institution, marking a major step in strengthening its administrative leadership.
The announcement was made during a special council meeting held in Daura, Katsina State, where other principal officers were also confirmed. Dr. Oyedeji Rasheed Olarewaju was named as the substantive Bursar, while Dr. Ibrahim Ahmadu was appointed as the substantive University Librarian.
Born on September 19, 1969, in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, Malam Bayu brings a wealth of experience to his new office. He obtained his first degree in Business Administration (Management) from the University of Maiduguri in 1998 and later earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in 2013.
Before joining the university system, Bayu had a successful career at the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and the National Universities Commission (NUC). He transferred his service to the Federal University of Kashere in 2011, where he rose through the ranks from Senior Assistant Registrar to Deputy Registrar. He also served as Acting Registrar of the institution between August 2022 and November 2024.
A dedicated member of the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Bayu has served on various committees and received commendations for his diligence and commitment to academic administration.
Meanwhile, Dr. Olarewaju, a seasoned financial expert and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, takes over as FUTD’s Bursar, while Dr. Ahmadu, a respected scholar with extensive experience in library and information science, assumes duty as the University Librarian.
The appointments, each for a single term of five years, are expected to further consolidate FUTD’s vision of becoming a world class institution for transportation technology and research.
