The National Defence College (NDC), Nigeria, hosted a Dinner and Awards Night on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, in celebration of the graduating participants of Course 33, marking the successful conclusion of the 11-month Strategic Leadership Course.
Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammed Matawalle, graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, according to a statement signed by Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Personal Assistant on Media, Office of the Minister of State for Defence.
In his address, the Minister congratulated the graduands and highlighted that the event provided a unique opportunity for participants to interact with one another and with invited guests. He further emphasised that the dinner allowed the participants to unwind and reflect after months of rigorous academic and leadership training.
Matawalle commended the National Defence College for its commitment to academic excellence, noting that the institution had equipped the participants with the essential knowledge and leadership skills necessary to discharge their constitutional duties effectively in their respective nations. He expressed confidence that the lessons learned at the college would remain valuable throughout their careers.
The Minister also praised the college for maintaining high standards in its educational programmes. He acknowledged the critical role these programmes play in shaping future leaders who will guide and safeguard the nations they serve.
“These experiences will continue to serve you well as you progress in your respective careers,” he stated.
Matawalle also took a moment to recognise the international participants of Course 33, commending their invaluable contributions and scholarly input.
“To our international colleagues, I salute your commitment, your scholarship, and the diversity you bring to this great institution,” he added. He encouraged them to carry forward the knowledge and experience they gained at NDC and to support Nigeria’s efforts in confronting the security challenges faced by the country.
The Minister also praised the leadership of the commandant, Rear Admiral James Ohimai Okosun, alongside the dedicated staff and faculty heads of the college.
He described their commitment as exemplary and stressed the vital role they play in shaping the future of defence and security leadership, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Conveying the congratulations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the graduates, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the well-being and security of all Nigerian citizens.
He urged the graduates to continue supporting the current administration as it strives to achieve national objectives and address the country’s security challenges. He underscored the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving national goals.
Matawalle also expressed his best wishes for the upcoming formal graduation ceremony of Course 33 participants, which is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
He extended heartfelt congratulations to the participants, their families, and the entire National Defence College for another successful academic cycle.
