Governor Alia’s Support To NUJ Members And The Need For Reciprocity, By Dr Aôndona Mkor
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr.Hyacinth Iormem Alia, earlier today, voluntarily and compassionately gave huge working and motivational incentives to members of the NUJ, Benue State. This gesture is in furtherance to the acknowledgement of the role of press/media as well as the media-friendly posture of his government in Benue State
As a democratic government under Alia’s leadership, the overnor has outrightly subscribed to the imperativeness of the doctrine of independence and freedom of the press/media under his administration in Benue State.
It is impressive to note that in the face of the plethora of variegated and competing state financial demands and obligations, the governor was enormously magnanimous to approve for members of the NUJ, Benue State, the following items/ incentives, which hitherto had stifled the roles, activities and effectiveness of members of the union in Benue State. These incentives include:
1. The gift of a bus for their mobility
2. Clearance of all their outstanding national dues
3. The approval for the renovation of the NUJ, Ankpa Road,Makurdi; and
4. The immediate distribution of improved Tenera oil palms to the members, amongst others
While the above gesture by the governor remains a sincere and fundamental reality of his resolute disposition to upholding the article of faith in democracy and of a popular government.
It is therefore, my candid opinion and appeal that the members of the NUJ, Benue State, should equally non-conservative and complimentary to the liberal character of Governor Alia.
By so doing, the leadership of the NUJ, Benue State should ensure that the unwarranted and hostile specter of reckless / uncoordinated press outings, publications, which most times are meant to malign the character and leadership efforts of Governor Alia, considerable checkmated
As a public affairs analyst , I have noted overtime that some newspapers, radio stations and even online press/media agents have not been fair in their activities against the modernist approach to growth and development by Governor Alia in Benue State.
The increasingly unpalatable, uncensored ,and most times, unrealistic captioning and publication of issues of leadership, peace, unity, and insecurity based on bigotry, chauvinistic persuasions and ethnic cleavages in Benue State, appears to be unfair and undeserving of the earnestness and genuineness of government in Benue State, to effect the appropriate veracity of Governor Alia’s agenda of growth and transformation
In the final submission, it should be noted that one good turn, deserves another”!
