The Tsafe Youth for Progress has commended Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis for his decisive role in the establishment and imminent take-off of the Federal University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
The commendation comes on the heels of the appointment of the institution’s principal staff by President Bola Tinubu.
Those appointed include Professor Nasiru Yauri as Vice Chancellor, Dr. Amina Mohammed as Registrar, Mr. Ibrahim Danladi as Bursar, and Dr. Fatima Bello as Librarian.
The group recalled how Senator Bilbis, representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, sponsored and championed the bill for the establishment of the university, diligently following through on all legislative processes until it was passed into law.
Leader of the group, Ahmad Musa, praised the senator’s steadfastness, which, he said, ensured the eventual codification of the university’s legal status through its gazetting.
“This has crystallised the position of the university and secured its place in Nigeria’s higher education landscape,” Musa stated.
The youth group also noted that the senator’s efforts were particularly timely, given the recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) decision to impose a seven-year moratorium on the establishment of new tertiary institutions.
“With the moratorium now in place, Senator Bilbis’s actions stand out as both visionary and timely. Had he delayed, Tsafe and the entire Zamfara Central would have lost this historic opportunity,” the statement reads.
