Gombe: Kumo Police Arrest 2 Over Death of Young Man, Warn Against Mob Justice

By Muhammad Faruk Bayu

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two young men over the alleged killing of a 22 year old in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Police said the suspects, Babayo Musa (20) and Zaidu Sani (18), were among four people who attacked the victim, Dauda Ahmed, with machetes on Wednesday morning. The other two suspects, identified as Sulaiman and Usama, are still on the run.

According to the police, the attack happened around 9:30 am in Jauro Musa Quarters, Kumo. The suspects allegedly accused Dauda of being behind a series of motorcycle thefts in the community.

Dauda’s elder brother, Dahiru Ahmed, reported the case to the police. Officers quickly went to the scene and rushed the victim to General Hospital, Kumo where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

The arrested suspects have reportedly confessed to the attack. Two machetes believed to have been used in the assault were recovered as evidence.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, condemned the killing and warned residents against mob justice, stressing that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.

“Any grievance or suspicion should be reported to the police for proper investigation,” the police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
